New: Updated header controls for your website

The header or main background image is a key part of your website’s design, and we constantly review the options and features that we can provide to make it both easy and flexible to make this area of your website look its best.

So today we’re excited to introduce some new header controls that give you even more control over your website’s design.

New fit to header area option

We’ve added a new fit to header area option - this means that, regardless of the size and orientation of both your photo and the header area, your full photo will be displayed in the header. No more trying to figure out which band member to cut off on mobile.

As this may result in some space around your header photos, you can choose how to blend them into your website. Try a solid background color with nice shape edges. There is also a bokeh effect option, using a blurred version of your photo in the background with nice soft edges on your foreground photo.

These settings can produce amazing results with almost any photo and give you a lot more flexibility with the image you can use.

The ability to crop your photos and select the area to act as the focal point can still be done by using the “fill header area” option.

To try out these new options, click the Edit Content tab, then select ‘Edit Image’ on your current header image. The new header editor will appear in a sidebar on the left, with all of the new controls.

Delivering your photos at the best quality and file size

We’ve also taken this opportunity to change the header to deliver device specific versions of your header photos. This ensures that your website visitors, using mobile through to high DPI desktop devices, get the best quality image possible - while at the same time reducing the file size delivered to smaller screen devices.

This is all done automatically for you and will result in better looking photos and quicker loading pages on mobile devices.

A faster editor

Finally, we rebuilt the header editing tools from the ground up and made many other under the hood changes to the headers to deliver a faster and cleaner editing experience enabling you to experiment and adjust quicker than ever before.
